Week 9’s Homework Exercise: A Coffee Tasting Experiment

Jonathan Godfrey

The results for a coffee tasting experiment are in a file found at (be careful) https://r-resources.massey.ac.nz/297101/CoffeeTastingabcd.csv

You need to replace the abcd in that URL though. the ab is the current year (two digits) and the cd is the last two digits of your ID number.

Background

The organisers have recruited 150 coffee-loving respondents, who were supposed to visit one of five different cafes at a stipulated time on a given day, to purchase a takeaway coffee. The respondents do not know what brand of coffee is being sold by the cafe.

The respondents rated each coffee on a nine point scale, where 1 means the coffee was awful, and 9 means it was everything the person wants in a coffee.

Required

You need to remove the nuisance effects to help decide which coffee brand is the most liked of these five brands, by:

  1. Creating a table that shows the mean liking score for each brand, and its standard error, having adjusted for the nuisance factors of time and day.
  2. Expicitly stating which is the most liked brand of coffee?

Important

Either embed your Qmd file, or make sure the R code you use is completely visible in the HTML file you upload.

You should only upload the resulting HTML file you create.
